Our Flag Means Death
On the recommendation of a friend, we started watching (and then plowed through) the HBO show Our Flags Mean Death. The show shares some DNA with What We Do in the Shadows so figured we’d fall in love. And that we did, for different reasons.
Remake Rivalry
I remember a compilation CD I had years ago called Golden Throats, which was a collection of celebs from the 60s singing well-known songs. It was more kitschy than quality, a special kind of tortured lounge — funny, but not something you’d put on repeat. When I think of covers, that’s where my head goes first. Or wedding bands you see in movies that are the butt of a joke.
Oh, the Horror
For as long as I can remember I’ve loved horror movies. Maybe like a lot of kids the interest was born of morbid fascination — forbidden fruit as I walked down the video store isle and we as a family consistently walked briskly passed. I would occasionally take a detour back through the array of suggestive covers and imagine storylines based on the still sneak preview. So much to imagine and the 80’s were ripe with potential.
