Our Flag Means Death

On the recommendation of a friend, we started watching (and then plowed through) the HBO show Our Flags Mean Death. The show shares some DNA with What We Do in the Shadows so figured we’d fall in love. And that we did, for different reasons. Each leans into the ridiculous. Neither cares about historical accuracy or reality. The gentleman pirate of Our Flags along with his crew, and later Black Beard, however, show us their gooey hearts, and in unexpected ways.

If you haven’t watched it, check it out, and rejoice that a second season is coming. I’m looking forward to where the story goes, BUT also eager to see the next round of title cards. Every episode has a unique opening. It’s always a surprise little kick, like a treat before the meal. Also, what fun it would be to make them. I’ve added it to my imaginary dream job list.

Bonus: Samba Schutte (Roach on the show) shares some behind the scenes here.

Cuteness alert: Rhys Darby and Taika Watiti giving each other lie detector tests.
